OVER 100 LOCAL STUDENTS WILL

“PLAY WITH THE PROS” OF THE

PRINCE WILLIAM SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA

DECEMBER 6, 2008, 8:00 p.m. METZ MIDDLE SCHOOL

Manassas, VA— The Prince William Symphony Orchestra (PWSO) will perform A Baroque Holiday with over 100 youth from area schools performing in one selection on Saturday, December 6, 2008 at 8:00 p.m. at Grace E. Metz Middle School, 9950 Wellington Road in Manassas. Tickets for the concert are $20 for adults, $15 seniors and FREE for all students 21 and younger and can be purchased on the symphony’s website at www.pwso.org or by calling 703-659-0103.

Imagine as a child, getting the opportunity to play baseball next to your favorite Washington National or to play football with the Redskins. That opportunity is exactly what the PWSO is offering to over 100 area middle and high school music students. On December 6, 2008, students from Metz Middle School, Bull Run Middle School, Stonewall Jackson High School, Brentsville High School, Lake Ridge Middle School, Mayfield Intermediate School and Forest Park High School will get to “Play with the Pros”.

The students have been practicing with their school’s orchestra director and will rehearse with the PWSO musicians and Music Director before performing for the public at Metz Middle School. They will be performing a special arrangement by Jean Dane of Corelli’s Christmas Concerto. The program will also include J.S. Bach “Orchestral Extravaganza” and Handel’s Music for the Royal Fireworks.

“This will be an exciting evening for parents, music students, and certainly for the orchestra,” said Executive Music Director, David Montgomery. “The children have been practicing since the end of September and are really looking forward to this wonderful opportunity to play with professional musicians in front of their families and friends.”

The Prince William Symphony Orchestra believes that this "active learning" opportunity is unique among American orchestras. The symphony seeks to attract parents, school children and their teachers to the concert hall to attend live concerts and offers free admission to all people under 21 – and to all school personnel in the region.

Celebrating its 36th anniversary, The Prince William Symphony Orchestra (PWSO) is the county’s only professional orchestra. The PWSO presents four Main Stage concerts per year at Metz Middle School in Manassas, three chamber concerts at the Manassas Museum, four free public performances at Prince William County Libraries and offers an annual Young Artist Competition for area youth.
